Podcast with Gardar Eide Einarsson

Gardar Eide Einarsson, Risk-Reduction Strategies for Law Enforcement; Tactics 47, 2021, Heliogravure, 38 x 28 cm.

We are pleased to present the first podcast in the context of the exhibition «On Photography - New Perspectives». In it you will learn more about the new series by Gardar Eide Einarsson. Listen to the podcast on our Soundcloud profile.

The three-part series by Tokyo-based artist Gardar Eide Einarsson shows torn-out pages from a manual for anti-terrorist units. The works reflect Einarsson's use of existing imagery to question how images are presented to us and how meaning and significance are created through imagery.

Einarsson works with different media and formats. While his paintings are often laid out in large format and thus have an authoritative effect, the current works are kept in a relatively small format to emphasize their everyday character. The elaborate heliogravure printing technique of the torn book pages contrasts with the usual Xerox aesthetic of Einarsson's works.

Political themes such as state violence, repression, and populism recur in Einarsson's artistic work. Artistic humor is one of Einarsson's favorite means of creating a certain distance from the symbolic violence of everyday life.

In the coming weeks, more podcasts will follow on the exhibition «On Photography - New Perspectives», on view through January 15, 2022.
