The "Template Watercolor" is the fourth work Beat Zoderer has created for the VFO. The new serigraphy consists of superimposed grey print sequences. The darkest parts of the sheet are the intersections of the used stencils. The strict geometric forms are given both spatial depth and a playful touch by the overlays and nuanced colour gradations. The title of the work leads to a wrong track, as it is a serigraphy and not a watercolour. It is the effect resulting from the superimposed stencils that is reminiscent of a watercolour. "Beat Zoderer's artistic stance seems fundamentally subversive. He is tempted to undermine the purity laws of modernism in order to defy the laws of 'good form'. Zoderer acknowledges the statements of minimalism in terms of both form and content, but at the same time distrusts their claim to absoluteness. He uses this contradictory relationship as a potential to make a new artistic statement on the basis of this paradox." (Dorothea Strauss, New Tools for Old Attitudes, 2008).

Gerda Steiner & Jörg Lenzlinger have been working together since 1997. The majority of their work consists of complex and site-specific installations. The central theme of the artist couple lies in the field of "People Technology Science". Recurring features are growing crystal landscapes, bone forests, grottos and caves, united vegetation and life in the ground - the nematodes! The macrocosm holds them in suspense just as much as the microcosm. In the present work "Namida" (Japanese "tear") microscope images of tears were printed on satin handkerchiefs. These six handkerchiefs show a selection of cutouts of tear crystals donated by visitors during the exhibition "Power Sources" 2012 in Art Tower Mito (Japan). The tears dry on a glass plate, crystallize and can be viewed and photographed under a microscope. Each tear crystallizes into a unique image as the result of a complex interplay of forces inherent in and surrounding us of which we know little. After a few months, the crystallization breaks down into dust.

A lonely house, a sprawling garden, it's dawn. Suddenly a light goes on and initiates a mysterious sequence of illuminated windows and rooms until the house sinks into the darkness of the night without revealing its inner life. Georgette Maag is a meticulous observer of her surroundings. Through video and photography she collects casual movements and poetic moments of everyday life. The view out the window is a central theme. On the threshold of inside and outside, images congeal. Shifts of light, shadow plays. During her studio stay at the Fondazione Sciaredo in Ticino, she created "La Lüm" (dialect for la luce), a series of photos that was animated into a video.

The artists Reto and Markus Huber have printed moths (popularly known as "spirits of the twilight") on the pages of an antiquarian book. This is the popular ethnographic publication "Die Sitten der Völker. Love, marriage, marriage, birth, religion, superstition, habits, cultural peculiarities, death and burials among all peoples of the earth" from 1914. The interest in the exotic - from a comfortable distance - is unbroken. There is nothing threatening about the two "spirits of the twilight" used. Two scientific representations from different epochs are carefully united by the transparent overprint. A surreal scene: the moths decorate, dress, cloak or inspire the depicted.

Daniele Buetti works in the fields of installation, concept art, object art and photography. His work phases usually extend over several years. The new graphics for the VFO are based on the series "Dreams result in more dreams" (2000- 2010) Daniele Buetti manipulated photographs from the world of advertising and fashion. The pictures were perforated and provided with a "speech bubble". The statements undermine the beautiful appearance ("if death smiles at you just smile back") and sometimes the young women are put in the mouth with a vulgar comment ("I'm too old for this shit"). Themes such as projection, transience, aestheticization, deconstruction, consumption and seduction circle around the works: exaggeration and unmasking go hand in hand.
