We travel together with Shirana Shahbazi. The motifs of the present prints (wedding dresses, place under a bridge, an armchair) were taken up by the artist in Iran, Croatia and Turkey. They are not reminiscent of "typical" travel pictures showing sights and highlights for tourists, but they are wonderfully strange, cleverly selected (un)places or objects - chance acquaintances with a sometimes unfathomable, enticing charm. The black and white motifs are overprinted with a glazed red, which at first glance suggests something eerie, even violent. The oscillation between ordinary and threatening creates a fascinating tension. Shirana Shahbazi lays a visual trail that can lead to surprising as well as familiar places.

Goodwin's latest examination of original graphics results in the combination of their strictly geometric visual language with the playful and the random. In her recent works she has forced herself to 'lose control' by adding a new 'dissolving' element to her rigorous hard edge approach. In a series of prints combining woodcut and lithography, Clare Goodwin uses the creative carte blanche to experiment and further explore her interest in the duality between representation and abstraction. The result is an exciting group of prints that evokes in the viewer a state of suspension between the perception of non-representational formal and spatially figurative levels.

The three motifs show collages of architectural fragments. They are edited photographs of demolition objects in Schwamendingen, own sculptures and architectural models (Pablo Vuillemin). I was interested in the terms "house ghosts / house gods", Latin "Lares", as well as the abstraction of the house as a code and extended pictogram. The images were developed using the cyanotype process, a method from the early days of photography for producing stable images. For this purpose I applied a light-sensitive emulsion on selected paper in a specially equipped darkroom. The paper impregnated in this way was exposed to the sun and then fixed in water. Each individual sheet is handmade and differs from the others, each sheet is unique. It shows small irregularities and varies in exposure intensity depending on the position of the sun and the clouds. These characteristic features are part of the concept, because it is beyond the absolute control to want to control the whole process of image creation. The pigment cyan, also called Berlin blue, is created by the chemical mixture (which is not only applied to the sheet, but almost soaks the paper) - it is one of the most intense, deepest blues I have ever seen. The motifs for the first edition "AUDE" 2010 were colored fabrics of water surfaces of the Etangs from Aude. This was followed in 2012 by "OZEAN" with reproductions of stormy wave landscapes of the Atlantic Ocean in the southwest France.
The pictures of the present edition "ETANG" 1/2015 and 2/2015 were taken under water in the Etangs from Peyriac de mer and Bages. In the highly salty water of these inland seas the incoming Sunlight under special atmospheric conditions several times and opens up like a kaleidoscope seen immense color spaces of intense luminosity. The seabed, the undersurface of the water and the manifold Flora and fauna reflect each other in shimmering, deep blaze of colour. Wondrous, glassy active plants are swaying in flooded streams of movement. A wave-like play of light marks his Rhythm over the whole silent happening.
The passing structures are surprising moments that, once formed, dissolve again immediately, just once, just to be there and be seen. These are brief glimpses into a paradisiacal universe. Above them lies a protective, silky carpet of flickering coloured light.
