At first glance, there is a very long way between the works for Edition VFO from 2007 (Sara,Claudia, Nadja, embroidery on fabric) and the new lithographs. Peculiar portrait-like figures on the one hand, and colored, geometric surfaces that slide against and over each other on the other. They are abstract compositions in which "building blocks" form foreground and background, but still remain two-dimensional. The sheets are strictly composed, but without sterile perfection: with a generous nonchalance, edges overlap, triangle tips barely miss each other, colored areas tilt towards the edge into the "dirty". What do the embroideries of 2007 and the lithographs of 2018 have in common? Perhaps it is the haptic aspect that has always been important in the work of Loredana Sperini. It's the seduction to touch the fabric or the leaf, to want to perceive the structure or even the colour even more sensually. The new lithographs offer a wonderful opportunity to (visually) surrender to this pleasure.

Loredana Sperini embroiders her pictures on cotton fabrics with needle and black thread. Stitch after stitch, strokes and spots grow into shadows and surfaces, two-dimensional drawings into haptic half reliefs. Based on photographs taken of people she knows, she makes drawings that she abstracts and crystallizes excrescences of inner feelings. "Sometimes the embroidered zigzag lines also combine to form dynamic signs that act on us like energies of interpersonal movements. In this quiet touching and decided condensation, the latent uncanny becomes suspect, secret spaces open up" (A. Affentranger-Kirchrath). The three motifs presented here were embroidered by the Bischoff Textil AG company in St. Gallen on a special machine with fine cotton yarn on cotton batiste. A lot of manual work was necessary: manual creation of a technical drawing and conversion of the same into electronic data for the machine control, removal of the connecting threads, tensioning of the fabric and cutting out the motif, as well as the final hand rolling. The production required intensive cooperation between the textile company and the artist.
