Christoph Schreiber has been working for quite some time now with visual material he finds on the Internet and further processes it on the computer in a collage technique. Thematically, the relationship between nature and culture is in the foreground. In the works realized for the VFO, oversized animals are depicted in man-made environments. They do not really seem to care about the human living environment, but they do act within it. The animals depicted go back to 18th century copperplate engravings (illustrations from the encyclopaedia by Diderot & d'Alembert), while the other visual material used is of photographic origin. The realization was done by means of a state-of-the-art inkjet printer. Thus these pictures, from copperplate engraving to photography and the modern pigment inkjet printing of our days, also contain a little history of printmaking, which is a particularly appealing thought for the artist.

A central aspect of Christoph Schreiber's work is the human interaction with his environment. As in the three photographic engravings at hand, the artist often uses architectural interventions in landscape and nature as the source material for his digitally processed photographic images.
