In keeping with the approach fostered by Edition VFO, Marius Lüscher uses printmaking to explore new possibilities of artistic expression. Experimenting with different printing techniques such as offset, relief printing and monotype is an important aspect of his creative work, as well as transferring forms from one medium to another.

Whether in his photographs of urban settings, his abstract paintings or print series, the intellectual exploration of form plays a central role in Lüscher's work. Over the years, the artist has built up an extensive repertoire of shapes, his personal vocabulary of lines and surfaces, which he is constantly developing. In this formal investigation, he uses printing processes as a means of research.

For the current series, Lüscher has painted abstract drawings with a brush on transparent film, broken them down into fragments and recombined them with cut-out paper shapes. The finished compositions are projected onto the offset plate, bringing the grainy texture of the brushstrokes and the matt opacity of the paper cut-outs onto the same plane. The various motifs are printed in black with the offset procedure. The background consists of color gradients created by monotype process, giving each sheet its own character.

Marius Lüscher spent the years 2014 to 2016 in Los Angeles. In 2019, the book "Under The Sun - La By Freddy Perez" was published with photographs from that period of time. In 2021, a grant from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation will enable him to spend an extended period in New York.
