The new series of frottages is part of the "Rented Life" series, in which Tobias Kaspar outsources his monthly expenses for over a year. Collectors* can buy a subscription by paying the artist's fixed costs and in return receive a work that reflects the form and content of the subscription booked. On the one hand, the artist "outsourced" supposedly indispensable monthly expenses, and on the other hand Rented Life is a kind of Bio Pic, a portrait of works in 2020/21.

In the "Rented Life" - edition for Edition VFO, the artist has produced six pairs of shoes - Simply Basic slippers, Converse Chucks, Hogan Rebel Sneakers, On Boots, Alexander Mc Queen Sneakers and Bottega Veneta High Heel Sandals - which he bought in 2020, in the classic frottage format in three unique variations each. Each Frottage is passed on at the market price of the shoe plus CHF 400 for production and handling of the work.

The medium of frottage, known as stone rubbing, is probably the first colour-using printing process that was widely used in China during the Ming Dynasty. The positive characteristic of this manual printing process was above all that there was no lateral inversion when printing directly. The technique was popularized again in art, especially in the 20th century by Max Ernst. Tobias Kaspar takes up this rarely used and often perceived as archaic or simple technique again. The new works also demonstrate how close the medium of print and drawing are to each other.
