Elements of nature serve Sonja Maria Schobinger as physical substance to give her thoughts a metaphysical expression. Processes such as emergence and decay - even stages of human life - find a resonance space in her art.
In her photograph "Still Life with Jug", which the artist created for Edition VFO, she focuses on the clash of two seemingly separate worlds: that of nature and culture. The jug in the lower half of the picture bears witness to civilization, the domestication of the savage, so to speak, while the upper part of the picture embodies nature, the organic. By taming the untamed, organic world of plants with a jug designed by human hands, Schobinger symbolically refers to the man-made order inherent in the Anthropocene and in doing so raises contemporary questions about how to deal with nature. Both the sensual, aesthetic and individual as well as the abstract, universally valid level of the respective motif is symbolically made visible here in a classical still life.
Schobinger's photograph was produced for the Edition VFO as a large-format fine art print on high-quality Hahnemühle Photo Rag. The chosen printing technique brings out the radiant luminosity of the flowers, which contrasts with the subtle colours of the middle and background.
