Mark Divo takes Albert Anker, Caspar David Friedrich and Carl Spitzweg as his target and brushes art history neatly against the grain: witty, bold and with little scruple. The still life with crockery and food is re-enacted in a picture by Anker. A farmer's breakfast? The supposedly intact world, the Inser intimacy, gets a sharp crack when the white lines in the foreground catch the eye. Drugs at Anker? An oblique contribution to Anker's jubilation. The ship in Friedrich's painting "The Arctic Ocean" is crushed by the ice masses and has already half sunk. Divo depicts this catastrophe with slices of bread and spread. Romanticism has been shipwrecked here. The quirky bookworm von Spitzweg remains bizarre even in Divo's version: only now he is a "book hater" and nails books to the wall.
