Andrea G. Corciulo precedes his pictorial inventions with performative interventions. The ritual-like staging gives the place a mysterious power, which is at the same time transferred to everyday objects of daily use. The perception of the 'foreign' and being foreign plays a central role. The artist makes himself an object and at the same time an instrument of knowledge. Only in this very physical encounter and touch can both the foreign and the own be perceived. The self-evident nature of the self becomes questionable and fragile - and thus opens up boundaries to the other, to the foreign - The visual material for the present works was created during a six-month journey in 2007 through various countries (including India, Bali, Malaysia, Australia, Argentina and Brazil).
