The OFF photo series by Daniela Comani is an excursus on perception in relation to media. With meticulous precision, she examines the familiar device for reproducing running images in the off-state: when switched off, televisions seem dead, they become cold objects, but also projection surfaces for viewers. When the picture is switched off, it is still not a device devoid of meaning, because the dark ground glass screen reflects the room, the people and the objects in it. Daniela Comani does not simply photograph inactive television sets, she flashes them: The flash on the dark screen is like a big bang that creates something new and at the same time outshines and erases the protagonist's reflection. At the moment of release, this brief flash makes idiosyncratic connections with the surface structure of the devices, creating new images and new forms: Landscapes with sunset in small format.
