The new graphic series is an attempt to construct a body from an irregular pentagon that is spatially perceptible and at the same time makes its interior visible. The dodecahedron is only visible if the front and rear pentagonal sides are omitted. The outer shape has ten visible corners. The sides are printed in ten transparent colours. The subtractive colour mixing increases the spatial appearance and leaves the view into the depths open. In the present works one sees five times the same form with changing colouring, sometimes rotated, sometimes mirrored or placed differently. This form is simultaneously a body and a cavity. It is like in Kurasawa's 1970 film "Dodes'ka-den", where the protagonist plays the tram and at the same time steers the tram. (B.Z.)

The "Template Watercolor" is the fourth work Beat Zoderer has created for the VFO. The new serigraphy consists of superimposed grey print sequences. The darkest parts of the sheet are the intersections of the used stencils. The strict geometric forms are given both spatial depth and a playful touch by the overlays and nuanced colour gradations. The title of the work leads to a wrong track, as it is a serigraphy and not a watercolour. It is the effect resulting from the superimposed stencils that is reminiscent of a watercolour. "Beat Zoderer's artistic stance seems fundamentally subversive. He is tempted to undermine the purity laws of modernism in order to defy the laws of 'good form'. Zoderer acknowledges the statements of minimalism in terms of both form and content, but at the same time distrusts their claim to absoluteness. He uses this contradictory relationship as a potential to make a new artistic statement on the basis of this paradox." (Dorothea Strauss, New Tools for Old Attitudes, 2008).

Beat Zoderer has already created two works for the VFO: 2001 'Randerscheinung', 2005 'Supramat', both serigraphs. The printing technique has remained the same, but the topography of the motif has changed enormously. Three years ago, for example, if the colour stripes were randomly arranged in diagonals - each stripe forces its way and is then guillotined abruptly with others to form a rectangle - 'Three times four loops' now wind their way over the paper. The four loops return on all three sheets: mirrored, turned, meandering to the west, to the east. They cheat the 'concrete one'. As harmless as the colourful windings seem at first glance, they appear exciting and original the next time you look at them. Many things seem possible. One could change the order of the sheets, turn them upside down, hang them upside down in landscape format - the fascination of wanting to look even more remains. Perhaps the works will also cause the viewer to change his or her position in the end, not the leaves, in order to immerse himself or herself in the visual and thought space of Beat Zoderer's loops.

"In my way of working, it is not the material or a certain technique that is decisive, but rather a system or ultimately an attitude that lies behind how to handle the materials, and the technique comes by itself. In this way everything is always possible, and the material and the technique are also interchangeable. But we all know that the "poetry" of the pictures comes from somewhere else." The present work was created in 3 steps: 1) On 5 DIN A3 landscape formats, diagonals in different colours and widths were laid out randomly. 2) Each landscape format was then consistently divided into three equal parts. 3) The 15 sections were remixed and systematically added horizontally, butt on butt, to a portrait format of 148.5 x 42 cm.

In the design for the large 12-colour serial graphic Bea Spillmann printed, he started out from strips of paper in different colours, which appear in the four parts at the edges.
