The examination of projection surfaces has played an important role in Nils Nova's artistic work from the very beginning, he thematizes them in different media, but especially in painting. In the present edition "Projection Screen - V", six to eight layers of paint run diagonally into one another and form a kind of V-shape. At the lower corners of the picture the application of paint becomes denser, the layers of paint overlap, creating a broken shade of colour. Towards the top, the layers of paint dissolve - an effect similar to the Sfumato painting technique ("smoky"). An illusionistic space is created, opening diagonally from bottom to top and vice versa. The "V" pictures fluctuate between pure abstraction and representationalism. The composition "V" offers a projection surface for the most diverse associations. The different colour scale has a considerable influence on the mood of the viewer and the potential for association in the pictures. The "V" pictures can trigger a contemplative moment and when viewed over a longer period of time, the mood can vary from contemplation to stimulation. (Nils Nova).

Over the last ten years Nils Nova has created a series of paintings, among others, which he has titled Empty Centers. These are mostly large format paintings (acrylic or oil on canvas or cotton). The pictures are painted with two to four layers of paint, with almost no paint applied in the middle, but the density of colour increases towards the edges. This creates a gradient that evokes a colour-light space. The artist used oil paint for the VFO's Empty Centers, which are all unique pieces. He sprayed each motif on handmade cardboard. "With his painting project Nils Nova moves - in different media and not least also in installation contexts - towards a pictorial quality in which the perception of surface and spatial illusion fluctuates and representationalism and pure abstraction overlap again and again. Even though Nova's works are largely based on everyday motifs and on questions arising from painting itself, they always move in blurred border areas that make any certainty appear to be a potential aberration. For the sensation lies in the actual sense of the word, not in what is depicted, but in the only binding reality of the depiction" Max Wechsler
